We had a bit of a sick week since Friday. M managed to goob out of every orifice at every given opportunity. By Sunday Alex was sick and I came home sick from work on Monday. The good news is that we all survived and are back in the peak of health.

Alex was even able to leave the house for a few hours on her own this evening. That gave M and I plenty of time to build a giant tower using all the good bits of Duplo. Normally we never even get close to using that many blocks, because early on in the construction process, M usually throws down on the poor ’sky scraper’ and the whole thing ends in laughter and disappointment.

M has sighted the tower and its mere presence is anathema to her. It taunts her with its slender biggness and must be eliminated.

With the target acquired, M now charges up with CosMic eMergy and dashes close to the speed of light straight at the building.

I went to the doctor while I was in Sydney and was “shocked” to discover I had put on weight since I had last been weighed by him in 2000. I had been a light weight at 106 kg 8 and a half years ago, but have moved on to a comfortable 132.5 kg. I believe a whole new approach has to be taken. I need more exercise and less unhealthy intake. I wonder why no one has ever thought of this before.

I am the sort of person that looks down at my beer gut and wishes it would go away. I also occasionally moan about the spare tyre I am carrying around. I sometimes get a bit bummed out when I look back on the younger skinnier me from the past and compare it to where I am now. I am also the sort of person that doesn’t really actively engage with the sorts of things that would fix this problem.

I have many excuses: Dieting is boring. Excercise is a waste of my precious time. I am too tired to cook properly or exercise after work. I like junk food. I love beer; the list goes on. I think that it is up to me to break the patterns I am in and make an effort to improve my own health.

On that note, does anyone have a good Dahl recipe? Or any other healthy, low fat, low carb veggie recipes that doesn’t involve a brown rice enema.

I just deleted 112 spam messages from the post about smoke and snow. It would suck to turn comments off, but unless everyone in Russia and Africa died right now, there would still be spam getting through.

I have had a whole bunch of interviews since Tuesday last week and the one that looked best was the International School of Beijing. I applied for a position as a fourth grade teacher and after a face to face interview and three phone calls they have offered me the job and I am about ready to accept.

Fairly excited is my current state.

I walked out of the airport in Düsseldorf (about 32 hours after entering Sydney airport) and the first thing I noticed was the giant plume of cigarette smoke. As I staggered blindly through the billowing haze, I found that the ground beneath my feet was cold and each step came with its own crunching sound. I emerged from the fumes to discover that D’Town is covered in about 15cm of snow. I was taken aback. It seems that the Germans have also been surprised as it is the coldest winter in 100 years.

I enjoyed my time in Sydney, although at times it did feel like we had to rush around. It was good to see all our people and it was good for M to get to know her grandparents. It is funny though, there are a bunch of people I only saw once and some more that i didn’t see that I wish I had.

I am shortly going to go into pie withdrawal, so I must go away and prepare.
